I always struggle with finding a setting powder that matches my foundation perfectly. How do I deal with this situation? I go for translucent powders, of course, but unfortunately, not all of them stay true to their names. Some of them will make your face look cakey and sometimes white. Even though traditional 'translucent' powders are actually white in colour, that doesn't mean that we want to look like ghosts. Laura Mercier is known for her Translucent Loose Setting Powder which seems to have become a cult classic that has earned a permanent place in many makeup bags. But what makes it different than the others?
I have to start by saying that this product is quite expensive (£29 for 29g) but I do think it does an amazing job and it's worth every penny. It is described as 'an extremely lightweight, sheer and silky setting powder' and this is definitely the most luxurious makeup product that I currently own. The powder itself is really smooth and as you can see in the picture below, it has a beige tone to it which won't make your face look horrible in pictures like some of the white powders do.
I have oily skin and every powder I've tried has left my face looking gross and shiny by the end of the day, even in colder months. This product doesn't do that and I was blown away by how well my makeup lasted throughout the day. I can now be carefree and not think about my foundation and concealer melting off after just a few hours of wear. What I absolutely love about it is that it does not have a matte finish, but manages to control oil like no other powder I've ever used and I think this is quite a tricky result to achieve.
This powder contains something called French 'cashmere' talc, an ingredient that has a velvety texture and helps blurring pores and fine lines. My pores are huge and I don't think I will ever find a product that will blur them completely, but I do think that Laura Mercier Translucent powder makes a difference. After dusting this, my skin looks so soft and radiant.
I like using it for both my face and my under eyes. I have never been able to use a powder on both areas before because the ones that I normally use to set my face are too drying for under the eyes. However, this one works wonders and it doesn't give that cakey, drying look. You only need a tiny amount to set your whole makeup, therefore a pot will last you for ages so I guess that's good value for money, right? I know this powder is insanely priced but if you like high quality face products, then you need to try this! Some of its other benefits is that is is paraben-free, talc free, non-comedogenic and oil free
Dusting just a little bit of powder all over the face will guarantee you a flawless finish. I personally like to do that with a fluffy brush. For under the eyes though, I prefer 'baking' my concealer, so I apply the powder with a damp beauty blender and after a couple of minutes I dust off the excess with a small brush.
Overall, I am really impressed with my first (and only) Laura Mercier product and I am 100% positive that this is the best powder I have ever used in my life. I would definitely repurchase it and I highly recommend it to all of you, especially to my oily/combo skin people!
Have you ever tried this powder or are you planning on purchasing it?
