My Favourite Festive Films

Christmas is right around the corner and nothing gets me more in the spirit than a marathon of festive films. Now that we have time to relax and enjoy the holiday season, I can't think of something better to do than snuggling up in bed or on the sofa with a hot chocolate and snacks, binge-watching as many films as possible. Here are some of my favourites that I could watch every single year without getting bored of.

Elf

As I mentioned in my Christmas tag post, Elf is my all time favourite Christmas movie. It's witty and hilarious and even as adults I think we can still resonate with it. Elf follows the story of Buddy, who was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised by among Santa's elves. Adult Buddy travels to New York in search of his real father. It wouldn't be Christmas for me without this movie!

Home Alone

Home Alone is a classic and it has been one of my favourite festive films for as long as I can remember. It centres around Kevin McCallister, an eight year old boy who is mistakenly left behind when his family flies to Paris for Christmas. Kevin initially relishes being home alone, but soon has to contend with two would-be burglars. Home Alone is a film that makes me laugh, it makes me cry, I literally get all the feels whilst watching it.

Love Actually 

This is the type of film that makes me scream 'awwww' throughout the entire thing. I could probably watch Love Actually at any time of the year and not just around Christmas. The storyline portraits different aspects of love as shown through many separate stories involving a wide range of individuals. My favourite storyline is the one with Jamie and Aurelia, who meet in France and despite the language barrier between them they fall in love. This film will sure make you laugh, cry and feel very festive.

The Holiday

The Holiday is not like any of the classic Christmas films but I still think it's quite fitting to watch it during the festive season. Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Iris (Kate Winslet) are two women who meet online on a house exchange website and they impulsively switch homes for the holidays. Iris moves to sunny California whilst Amanda arrives in the snow-covered English countryside. Shortly after arriving at their destinations, both women find the last thing either wants or expects: a new romance.

Jingle All The Way

And last but definitely not least, a family comedy classic, Jingle All The Way. The film follows the story of two guilt-wracked fathers racing around Minneapolis on Christmas Eve trying to buy their sons a sold-out Turbo Man. This makes me now think about my parents who probably went beyond and above to get me my dream toys for Christmas.
