As you can probably tell from the picture above this is still a translucent loose powder. I definitely prefer them over compact ones when it comes to setting my makeup at the start of my day because this girl likes her baking. Because of my oily/combo skin I would literally have to bake every inch of my face to make sure everything stays in place all day but I'm not that extra so I just do the usual under eye area, a bit on my forehead, chin and a bit around the nose. Throughout the day, if I need to blot and powder up I would either use a bloterrazzi sponge from beautyblender which is a game changer when it comes to beauty touch ups, (absorbs all the oil on my face without smudging my makeup!!) or a compact powder from Soap&Glory
Packaging
When it comes to packaging, Kat von D never fails. The pot is made out of acrylic which to me seems very durable. It has a black screw on lid with the letters KVD engraved on top. Pretty sleek and sturdy. I also like that the pot is very clear so you can see how much product is left in there.
Texture
Although the shade is described as translucent, it has a slightly yellow undertone which I don't really mind because it doesn't leave a white cast and it doesn't affect the colour of my foundation at all. When you look at the powder up close you can notice some particles called micro-shimmers but once they reach the surface of the face they're not visible anymore. The Lock-it powder has a finely milled, silky texture. It feels very soft, like you're putting velvet on your skin.
Application and finish
The product applies like a dream! It sets foundation, concealer and anything that you may have on your face perfectly, with no signs of a powdery, cakey look. I really feel like it brightens up the skin a bit and it does a good job at blurring pores and imperfections as well. The finish is matte but the velvety type of matte which is not drying at all and it doesn't get into fine lines or anything like that. It's super easy to blend the product because it literally feels like the powder is melting into the skin. When it comes to longevity, I think that the Laura Mercier powder performs better in this department. The Kat von D one has an amazing finish and texture but it doesn't seem to keep the oils at bay for as much as I want.
If any of you have tried any of these products, do let me know! I'd also love to know what are your current favourite setting powders!
